This object has two main functions. On the one hand, it brings attention to the fact that the interactions are being videotaped and live broadcasted. Videotaped confrontations are theorized to have a deterrent effect on excessive use of force or unlawful actions by officers because they become self‐aware that they are being recorded. On the other hand, it offers a platform for protest branding or individual broadcaster branding.

In today's social media era, many of us get most of our information from each other, not established new sources. Now we can brand ourselves as such. The design takes inspiration from professional news camera’s lens hoods along with the common site of branded microphones (flags) that identify the reporter as belonging to a specific channel. This design is easily printed and cut by an individual, or it can be mass-produced with the protest colors or logo and handed out.
